For over 100 years, the Holophane company (Latin, with “holos meaning "whole", and “phaein meaning "light") has been recognized as a leading manufacturer of antique prismatic glass shades. Holophane made this particular design until the 1930s when they moved into large commercial fixture production. Etched shades like this one were called "Extensive". The 224CE-12 is a clear glass version.Other companies such as Gillinder (also still in business) and Franklin made lesser-quality, lower-cost shades around the same time. Antique prismatic glass shades from these manufacturers can sometimes be found in our Portland Store's Vintage Shades section. See more shades with a 3 1/4" fitter.
