These shades all emerge from humble clumps of glass.The Aurene Optic Tulip Shade begins as a gold lump, which is first rolled in a round wood block to prepare it to be mouth blown into a "ribbing" mould. Glass is blown into a rough tulip shape, and the bottom of the glass is burst to create a wide rim, which is placed onto a fluting mold for dimpling. After more shaping and finishing (and while still quite hot) the shade is sprayed with tin chloride, giving it an iridescent, light-refracting finish.After it's completely cooled in an annealing oven, the fitter is ground off with a diamond saw and the shade is signed.
