Central Michel Richard

Opened in late 2006, world-renowned Chef Michel Richard brings his take on the classic French bistro to Washington DC. Located centrally on Pennsylvania Ave, between the White House and The U.S. Capitol, Central presents a more casual atmosphere than Chef Richard's famous Citronelle (recently voted #1 Restaurant in DC by the WASHINGTONIAN), and is designed to be a celebration of the American Dining Experience as seen through the eyes of the proudly French-American artist -who can often be seen at work in Central's large, open chrome and ceramic-tiled kitchen.Central's design takes its cue from the traditional French Brasserie, but in this instance, traditional materials are given more modern and streamlined detailing. Leather wall tiles, rich hickory wood paneling, shimmering copper curtains and gold illuminated vaulted ceilings help create a friendly and warm atmosphere. Large backlit white and wine room glass panels frame the main dining room, adding a touch of splendor.Large scale graphics add to the fun of the space, as a large glass mural of Michel himself winks at you from the rear of the semi-private dining room and a subtle image of the Statue of Liberty peers out onto the lively bar, reminding patrons of another famous gift from France.
