In an effort to convert the building into a Class A office building, GGA (Group Goetz Architects) is currently providing architectural design services to improve the overall aesthetic and classification of this commercial office facility. GGA is responsible for the renovation of the first floor east elevation on 18th street, which will include new exterior paving and the addition of a new aluminum canopy. The renovation of the exterior façade will be made of frameless glass, significantly improving the display space and exposure for the two retail tenants on either side of the main building entrance. In addition, GGA is performing a complete renovation of all public spaces within the building, including the entrance gallery, main building lobby, elevator lobbies, bathrooms, and corridors. The newly designed entrance gallery features Venetian and Japanese plastered walls and a light sculpture comprised of dimmed LED lighting that runs the entire length of the space. At the end of the entrance gallery, GGA extended the 1st floor, creating a new, comfortable seating lounge open to the spacious and naturally lit 6-story atrium space. In the atrium, along the edge of the seating lounge, GGA created a “floating garden that softens the finishes palette and brings a natural element to the center of the project. Through GGA's redesign of the security/reception desk, several improvements were made, namely the integration of security equipment and visibility of the building directory, Additionally, GGA created a stela to display live cable news channels and designed custom leather benches located strategically throughout the common areas.
