The Design Process
Objective
The goal was to create a statement lounge piece that embodies a sense of weightlessness and visual lightness while balancing luxury, comfort, and modern aesthetics. The design aimed to serve both functional and artistic roles in contemporary interior spaces—residential or commercial.
Design Team
Led by designer Nihar Soni, the process was rooted in a deep understanding of materials and a vision for timeless, contemporary forms. Nihar’s approach emphasized artisanal detailing, ergonomic comfort, and a conscious blend of transparency and form.
Solution
The resulting chaise lounge merges minimalism with aesthetic clarity and functional elegance. The use of transparent bent acrylic achieves the visual objective of weightlessness and openness, while the customizable cushion systems provide tactile richness and personal comfort. Every line and curve was refined to serve a purpose—either structural, ergonomic, or visual—reflecting the core philosophy of "less, but better." The final design harmoniously integrates into modern interiors, offering a luxurious yet restrained expression of contemporary living.
Sustainability
Sustainability was a key consideration in the design and material selection for the chaise lounge. While acrylic is often associated with modern, industrial aesthetics, it also offers several sustainable advantages when used thoughtfully and responsibly.
Acrylic, particularly cast acrylic, is a highly durable and long-lasting material. Unlike disposable or short-lived alternatives, its strength and resistance to wear ensure a prolonged product lifespan, reducing the need for frequent replacements and thereby minimizing environmental impact over time. Additionally, acrylic can be mechanically recycled, allowing off-cuts and post-use pieces to be repurposed or reprocessed into new forms, supporting circular design practices.
The transparency and clarity of acrylic reduce the need for excessive decorative elements or coatings, keeping the product visually clean and material-efficient. Its lightweight nature also contributes to lower transportation emissions compared to heavier alternatives, further reducing the product’s carbon footprint.
By pairing acrylic’s sustainable potential with a minimalist design philosophy, the chaise lounge exemplifies how modern furniture can achieve both aesthetic excellence and environmental responsibility. The design encourages conscious consumption—investing in fewer, better pieces that last.
