Drifting Lights, the new Signature Design by Preciosa Lighting, takes center stage at Fuorisalone with an original large-scale site-specific installation. The Czech brand, known for reinterpreting the tradition of Bohemian glass through contemporary design and cutting-edge technology, explores a new dimension of light and matter in Milan..
Building on its award-winning installations in Zona Tortona and at Euroluce, Preciosa returns this year with Drifting Lights at Tempesta Gallery, Foro Buonaparte 68.
In a space of approximately 30 m², 60 glass panels suspended both vertically and horizontally form a structure measuring 8.7 × 3.2 × 3 meters. The composition brings design to life through Preciosa's exclusive 3D Patch lighting effect, exploring the interplay between light, color, and mouth-blown glass encapsulating microscopic bubbles – giving shape to emotions and atmospheres.
Inside the gallery, light behaves like ink in water, flowing from one panel to the next, shifting in form and color. Hues expand, soften, dissolve, and then recompose as the luminous projection reveals the minute air bubbles and unexpected details held within the glass.
Chromatic sequences play a central role in shaping the experience. Moving through the space, visitors are accompanied by a silent choreography: transitions from red to pink to green trace a subtle emotional narrative, evoking love, passion, and inner peace.
Designed by Preciosa's Co-Creative Directors, Michael Vasku and Andreas Klug, the installation invites a slow exploration – offering a moment of pause and reflection from the intense rhythm of design week, stirring emotions through the dynamics of color.
They comment:
«In the heart of Brera, our installation aims to capture the energy of Milan while creating a space in which to slow down, stop, and be surprised. In a dimly lit environment, Drifting Lights comes alive through our exclusive 3D lighting effect, shaping a multisensory experience that leads the visitor through a carefully orchestrated sequence of transforming colours and movements.»
The Drifting Lights collection, which gives its name to the Milan site-specific project, was first presented at Downtown Dubai Design in November 2025 and is currently part of international projects, with installations underway in high-end residences in Prague and Switzerland.
The collection consists of oblong and square-shaped glass panels set within an L-shaped stainless steel frame that discreetly integrates an LED strip. Each element is formed by encapsulating countless thin air bubbles within the material. As light passes through the structure and diffuses into the glass, it takes on a fluid quality, illuminating the bubbles as if they were suspended constellations.
Like all of Preciosa's Signature Designs, Drifting Lights is fully customizable. The panels are available in ten sizes, with various metal frame finishes and vertical or horizontal orientations, offering a wide range of compositional possibilities.
The mouth-blown glass, already distinguished by its micro air bubbles, can be further enriched with Preciosa's Fused Veil pattern – in vortex or diagonal variations – which allows light to be directed in specific directions. For highly bespoke projects, Preciosa can also integrate a sophisticated artistic technique that enables pigment particles to vibrate within the material, capturing and amplifying the light passing through it.
When illuminated with static light, Drifting Lights emits a soft, gathered glow – but it is with dynamic light that the composition reveals its full potential. Through 3D spatial mapping and RGBW technology, light designers can now choreograph the fluid movement of light across the panels, as will be demonstrated during Milan Design Week.
