The redesign of the hotel for an urban, cultural and historical environment, identifies the hotel with the heritage environment of the city of Tavira, which has more than 500 years of foundation. The NOMAD Bar represents a tribute to the various nomadic peoples who lived in the city, from the time of the Visigoths, through the Romans and the Arabs, who contributed to the cultural specificity of a collective memory that still persists today.
The fact that the Bar is located on the rooftop of the Hotel, makes it one of the highest points of the city, which recurrently translates the memory of the Lighthouses that served to illuminate the boats at sea, or the forts that served as a means of surveillance and protection of the city.
The Design Process
The goal of the intervention would be to enhance the experience of the bar to the outside, making the most of the splendid view of the city, the sea and the mountains. Inside, the rough concrete floor was kept, and a neutral floor was chosen to highlight the decorative artifacts. We used sofas and benches with finishes that simulate greater wear and tear in order to invoke the use as memory. The largest investment was made in the counter area, using a front in shades of gold, symbolizing the preciousness and wealth of the people who inhabited the city. Indirect lighting was used to highlight the decorative elements, making them a reference, as if they were museological elements.
Sustainability
The whole project was developed using BIM methodology and technology. We anticipated the use of local suppliers and producers in the construction and supply of decorative elements for the decoration of the Bar.
