Renton School District's Energy Consumption, Reduced!

Located southeast of Seattle, Renton School District has 28 facilities, comprised of 2.4 million square feet. When the District Energy Management Office began looking for ways to reduce energy costs at their schools, they realized that upgrading to efficient LED lighting offered an ideal solution. The existing exterior lighting was beyond its useful life and lighting levels were grossly inadequate. The inefficient exterior wall packs were metal halide fixtures with wattage ranging from 90 to 400 watts. Cautiously, the school district began a yearlong pilot project where they installed and tested the LED products of several national companies.

Sustainability

At the end of the process, 437 of Hubbell Lighting's Laredo LED Architectural Wallpacks were installed on every facility in the district. Before the upgrade project, the annual energy consumption was 215,647 kWh. After the Hubbell Lighting exterior LED fixtures were installed, energy consumption decreased to 39,027 kWh annually. That equates to an 82% reduction in energy consumption, saving approximately $15,000 annually at today's electrical rates.

Where We Began

Hubbell Incorporated began its journey in the late 1800’s when its founder, Harvey Hubbell, developed tooling and equipment to serve the growing demand for new assembly and manufacturing machinery during the industrial revolution. The commercial availability of electric power and advent of the light bulb created additional opportunities for Hubbell. With early patents for the “pull chain lamp socket” and “separable plug and receptacle,” Hubbell stepped into an era of creativity, inventing new ways to serve its growing customer base of businesses, manufacturers, utilities and homeowners.

 Hubbell Today

Today, we continue the tradition of growth and innovation that Hubbell was built on more than a century ago. We are focused on delivering high quality, dependable products. Internally, we are supported by our knowledgeable customer care teams. In the field, we work with our channel partners to deliver our product to market. Our network of distributors and retailers provide sales support, local inventory and expertise for the end-consumer.
