EnOcean EDK 350U developer kit

The new EnOcean developer kit EDK 350U for the North American market covers the entire energy harvesting wireless product range in 902 MHz, from energy harvesting and wireless modules to ready-made product solutions.

The new kit is part of a modular concept with which EnOcean can offer OEMs a cost-effective and customized development platform for fast integration of energy harvesting wireless solutions that work without batteries into building and industrial automation, smart home as well as machine-to-machine systems.

EnOcean’s energy harvesting wireless technology enables wireless communication by collecting energy from the surroundings such as motion, light and temperature differences. Automation systems including sensors, thermostats, presence detectors, heating valves, ventilation systems, or intelligent control units integrating this technology avoid the waste of batteries and can achieve 20 to 40 percent in energy savings combined with high comfort and reduced installation and maintenance cost.

EnOcean's energy harevsting wireless solutions have received multiple awards. The latest can be found at www.enocean.com/awards

The developer kit is an OEM product. OEMs get the price on request via the EnOcean distribution channel www.enocean.com/distributor

The new developer kit’s central element is a universal programmer board EOP 350. In combination with EnOcean’s DolphinStudio PC software, the kit provides application development, configuration and programming for EnOcean wireless modules targeted for the OEMs unique needs. The complete EDK 350U includes a suite of EnOcean products: TCM 320U (line-powered transceiver module), STM 300U (universal wireless sensor module), ECO 200 (mechanical energy converter), PTM 330U (transmitter module for ECO 200), PTM 210U (energy harvesting switch module), STM 33xU (solar-powered temperature sensor module), USB 300U (USB wireless gateway to PC), DolphinStudio (configuration and programming software) and DolphinAPI (application programming interface).
The package is completed by the DolphinView PC software for visualizing and analyzing the wireless protocol. The application profiles (EnOcean Equipment Profiles or EEP) that enable interoperability between devices and manufacturers can also be transmitted and interpreted with the kit.

EDK 350U modules communicate on the 902 MHz frequency. This band offers reliable, long-range communication, typically double the range of 2.4 GHz devices of similar output power, with a significantly lower energy budget. Using the kit, developers can create a comprehensive range of energy harvesting wireless applications, including switches in various form factors, bidirectional sensors, and innovative controllers. EnOcean TCM modules can be easily enabled to repeat signals, extend wireless range and enhance robustness. The USB 300U stick enables EnOcean-based products to be integrated quickly into smart home systems. All application-specific configurations can be done via the programmer board and the Dolphin software.

EnOcean is the originator of patented self-powered wireless technology. The company manufactures and markets maintenance-free wireless sensor solutions for use in buildings and industrial installations as well as in further application fields such as smart home, smart metering, logistics or structural health monitoring. EnOcean products are based on a combination of miniaturised energy converters, ultra-low-power electronic circuitry and reliable wireless. Today wireless modules from EnOcean are integrated worldwide by more than 150 manufacturers to enable their system ideas for buildings, industry and the Internet of Things. There are already wireless components in use in more than 250,000 buildings. Leading companies worldwide from the building sector collected to form the EnOcean Alliance and establish innovative automation solutions for sustainable building projects – and so to make buildings more energy-efficient, more flexible and lower in cost. The core technology of the Alliance is EnOcean's energy harvesting wireless technology for flexibly positioned and service-free sensor solutions. More than 350 companies currently belong to the EnOcean Alliance, offering over 1,200 interoperable products based on the EnOcean standard.
