The Design Process
The Objective
To create a line of interior/exterior wood panels that combines architectural elegance with commercial-grade performance for interiors and exteriors. Our goal was to elevate classic materials—like tambour and wide plank paneling—using a sustainable thermal modification process that enhances durability, dimensional stability, and provides a rich natural look that rivals excotic and tropical woods at a fraction of the cost
The Team
The project was developed by Surfacing Solution’s internal team of product engineers. With decades of experience in architectural woodwork and a strong pulse on commercial design trends, we worked closely with interior designers, contractors, and fabricators to ensure our products were both beautiful and practical. Every detail—from slat spacing to plank sizing—was refined through feedback from real-world installations across hospitality, office, retail, and multi-family spaces. The Solution
The result is a cohesive line of thermally modified tambour and wide plank panels crafted from ash and red oak. The thermal modification process naturally enhances the wood’s resistance to moisture, movement, and decay, while deepening the color to a rich, caramel tone. Tambour panels provide flexibility and texture—perfect for curves, columns, and vertical surfaces—while wide planks deliver clean lines and natural variation for walls, ceilings, and architectural features. All panels are fabricated in our Minnesota facility with a focus on consistency, quality, and ease of installation.
