The first of these deep opaque tones was developed in the late 1920s and early 1930s, while innovations in glass techniques have continued ever since. Today, Venini works with such noted artists as Gio Ponti and Ettore Sottsass to bring modern panache, simplicity and flair to ancient glass-blowing traditions. The Dorici has an unadorned, columnar shape, echoing the simplest of the columns from ancient Greek architecture, the Doric. But cast in rich, aqueous shades of glade green and ivory, this is a vase that sings. Each of the Dorici vessels rises simply, whether from a short or long stem, to a subtly flaring neck. The gently fluted throat is perfectly designed to allow long-stemmed flowers to fan gently outward without losing their support. But whether holding flowers or standing alone, the Dorici commands attention for its stunning sculptural form. Every color is based on a specific recipe, while the Venini palette is always expanding and being refined. Each DWR piece is hand-blown by a master glassmaker and his assistants, signed and dated.
