Stone Forest Introduces the Multi-Dimensional Facet Bathtub – a Study in Functional Art

Stone Forest adds another notable design to its bathtub collection with the introduction of the Facet Bathtub. Carved from single blocks of Antique Gray Limestone or Noce Basalt, these architectural statement pieces are the embodiment of functional sculptures, emphasizing the simple beauty of natural stone.

“While the Facet bathtubs complement our Elemental Facet collection of vanities, vessels, storage units and accessories, these bathtubs were designed to stand alone,” states Michael Zimber, founder of Stone Forest. “We wanted to get away from traditionally-shaped tubs so we designed this collection as an updated ovoid and added the faceted detailing on the exterior to provide additional dimension.”

Hand-crafted to create subtle flat planes that reflect and refract light when viewed from different angles, the unique faceted exterior makes a strong architectural statement. Taking three weeks to complete, the ovoid shape is squared at each end to provide a small rest for accouterments, while the interiors are smooth and inviting.

Available in two luxurious stones, Antique Gray Limestone, also called "bluestone", and Noce Basalt are sourced from quarries throughout Europe. As with other stone tubs, the material takes on the ambient temperature of the room, creating a vessel for experiencing soul healing calm and the suspension of time.

Material Details:
Antique Gray Limestone is a sedimentary rock that derives its charcoal gray color from the different minerals that fossilized in layers. This stone has some non-structural inclusions that may appear as thin white lines.

Noce Basalt is an igneous (volcanic) material formed primarily from the rapid cooling of lava which flows near the surface of our planet. Dense and durable, basalt lends itself to a wide range of sculptural applications.

A LITTLE ABOUT US

Formed in 1989, Stone Forest is a group of artisans and designers focused on bringing the elegant simplicity of natural materials into the kitchen and bath and garden.  We take our lead from nature’s blue print, emphasizing the quiet beauty of stone, bronze, copper, wood, and iron.

THE SHORT STORY

Stone Forest was founded by Michael Zimber in 1989.  Michael’s relationship with stone and water began in his early 20s when he worked as a climbing and river guide.  Fascinated with the beauty of the rock cliffs he was scaling, he began sculpting blocks of stone in his spare time.  Mike thought that if he could somehow capture this feeling and bring it into people’s homes, he could make an enjoyable and meaningful living. Stone Forest was born.

Stone Forest design inspiration: The design should never speak louder than the stone itself.
