This handmade, decorative ceramic tile mosaic design is of Aspen trees in a woods. It measures approximately 3'x 5'. All the tiles are made the old fashioned way starting with a block of clay with a slab cut from it. It is then hand rolled and manually rolled through a slab roller to assure a uniform thickness of approximately 1/4" thick.Each tile is hand-cut; not molded from the clay, making it a unique work of art. The larger aspen tree sections are just that; sections of the tree trunks that are hand cut to interlock together. This creates a seamless tree trunk that flows smoothly.Once again, the glazing process is also done by hand. The tree trunks were stained with an under glaze and later coated with a clear coat, to add depth. The leaf tiles were all airbrushed, sometimes more than once, to create subtle color variations in the glazes.Brown grout was used to blend the background tiles into the mosaic design, bringing the Aspen tree and leaves forward into the design.

Sustainability

All of the tiles are fully vitrified to last for generations.
