River Of Life Art Wall

Platinum Award
The Baylor Charles A Sammons Cancer Center was designed by Perkins & Will Architects, Dallas office. The Art Wall is 24’ high x 16’ wide. Water textures with sparkling dichroic glass bubbles create an ambiance of shimmering sunshine. Rocky textured shoreline surrounds the river’s edges. Get an aqueous ambiance in your project without the maintenance issues involved with using water. The creation begins with a concept and specifications for each work of art. From the concept springs the design. The nuances of each artwork happen at the time of creation. The artwork is “in process” until it feels fully resolved. In kiln-worked glass, the glass is molded, colored and shaped in Meltdown’s large industrial kilns at temperatures up to 1600 F. Artwork can be fired multiple times until the desired effect is achieved. Cast be tempered, laminated or installed in fire-rated safety-glass wall systems. It lends itself equally to being integrated into architecture or added as desired to an existing facility or home. Meltdown Glass, under the artistic direction of artist BJ Katz and Chris Klein, is dedicated to expanding the frontiers of kiln-cast glass in architectural and sculptural applications. Katz says, “As Ernest Hemmingway once remarked, ‘we are all apprentices at a craft no one can master.’ I feel the same way about glass.. I wake up each day eager to meet the next challenge. My spirit thrives on learning as I create,” reflects Katz. “Glass is only limited by ideas and creativity – the sky’s the limit.”Founded by glass artist BJ Katz in 1993, Meltdown Glass has grown to become one of the pre-eminent kiln-fired art glass studios in North America.
