Self-checkout system frees specialized staff to work on high-level tasks QuickCheck shelf-checking system operates in a similar fashion to a bank ATM - patrons gain access to the library's circulation software with a user card and touch screen video monitor. The system utilizes patron cards already in use at the library and comes with the necessary hardware and software to operate the unit including flat screen LCD monitor display, scanner, deactivator, standard receipt printer, keyboard mouse, remote modules and report modules. The system is connected in real time to circulation software. A barcode or radio frequency identification (RFID) chip on the item is "read;" then, QuickCheck checks the item out and deactivates the security strip. It will not erase videocassettes during checkout. A receipt is then printed listing the items borrowed and their due date. Once the process is complete, patron exits the library through the security system without intervention from library staff. Features include easy, on-screen operating guide that can be changed to display colors, messages and images of your choice, the ability to read barcodes, magnetic stripe, proximity, smart card or biometrics, remote monitoring by staff so that patrons can be assisted when needed, patron lockout for blocked/barred accounts and the use of up to 10 languages to print date due and status receipts in the patron's language of choice.
