Lavagna

The quarried version of this lava-based stone is from the Liguria region of Italy. It has a black background with an irregular, rough surface. The limitations of this stone are generally seen when veining and blotching occur within the structure or when the color of the stone lightens due to mineral impurities. The background hue and the absence of veining and blotching are essential in determining the quality. This stone was recreated as a geologic stone to provide reliable coloration, to strengthen the product's resistance to staining and to produce consistent hardness throughout the structure of the stone. Particularly well-suited for exterior applications, Lavagna's strong, intense color and slate/textured finish enable its use in various design contexts ‚¬â€from rustic to modern. Its technical characteristics, including resistance to chemical attack and atmospheric agents, imperviousness, and frost resistance are superior to its quarried counterpart.
