MUSEUM OF JEWISH HERITAGEVISITORS CENTER, 1997

The Visitors Center for the Museum of Jewish Heritage: A Living Memorial to the Holocaust functioned as an extended vestibule for the Kevin Roche-designed Museum building. The schedule was fast-tracked to coincide with the September 1997 opening of the Museum and required a design that was able to be erected in a six-week time frame. The structure was dismantled and is waiting in storage to be used again.

Weisz + Yoes is a NYC NYS certified woman-owned business.Weisz + Yoes is a knowledge driven practice where architecture is informed by an in-depth process of design research that our challenging clients and projects demand. Each of our projects evolve in response to the specific conditions of program, site context and technical constraints and opportunities. We believe that our most successful buildings, architecturally and functionally, are those that are a translation of the goals and needs of our clients and their projects. As such, our approach in the planning and design of a project is a collaborative one. Through interactive design sessions and presentations we collectively explore a variety of approaches, along the way selecting an option or combination of options for refinement that best achieve the project goals. We use the advantage of 3-D digital modeling as well as physical models to enhance the understanding of the design issues posed by each of the approaches and we use both precedent images as well as a storyboard approach to outline material and formal opportunities. Whether small or large our projects prioritize an ambition for the optimum environmental and formal relationship and for a new relationship to come out of the design process that reframe the city, the site and the purpose in a way that has resonance in its built and constructed reality.
