The Cocoon collection, a 1960's classic, has reemerged like a butterfly. Remember the Viscontea and Taraxacum pendant fixtures and the Gatto table lamp by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni as well as the Fantasma and Fantasma Piccolo floor lamps by Tobia Scarpa? All were introduced again ‚¬â€alongside the collection's new Zeppelin pendant by Marcel Wanders ‚¬â€at Euroluce in Milan, as a tribute to the late Achille Castiglioni. (They're expected to hit the U.S. market in early 2006.) Each lamp starts as white-painted steel, sprayed twice with a composite of resin and spun polymer fiber; this adheres to the fixture's ribs to become a taut membrane. After the composite cures completely, the manufacturer applies a coat of protective transparent paint. The entire process takes more than 96 hours.
