Located in the heart of London’s Marylebone High Street, Fischer’s is an informal neighbourhood café and Konditorei reminiscent of early 20th century Vienna.Working in close collaboration with the interior designer, Nulty was appointed to create an architectural lighting design scheme that would maintain a warm, intimate atmosphere from early morning breakfast through to evening service, while being flexible, modern and energy efficient.The Nulty team ensured that the space is permeable by carefully balancing illumination levels with the rear dining areas being subtly brighter to enhance the depth of the restaurant, guiding the eye through. Layered lighting that blends wall and pendant lights was applied to create the ambient illumination of picture lights, and track mounted spotlights provide feature and accent lighting.The elegant restaurant interior exudes warm tones and encourages conviviality using a flexible lighting system that produces the intimate hue of the old-fashioned lamp.Nulty used a lighting control system that enables ‘scene setting’ at the restaurant’s time of service to balance the stages of daylight and maintain the interior’s warm tones; the system helps reduce energy consumption where possible without comprising on the quality of illumination.The interior design of the restaurant is brought fully to life through the architectural lighting design scheme allowing for a dining experience that conveys charm and engenders that European café society ambience.

We use light to reveal and accentuate the architectural environment, while recognising the importance of creating solutions that are easy to maintain and cost-effective. We strive to reduce the environmental impact of our designs by maximising energy efficiency and minimising light pollution and trespass, and by sourcing equipment with minimal embodied energy.
