VQ Bloomsbury is a newly opened 24-hour café & diner and is the West End branch of the long-established and popular VQ in Chelsea.Nulty was appointed to create a dynamic architectural lighting design scheme that reinforces the 24-hour use of the space. The lighting allows for a simple, yet flexible lighting solution for the new restaurant that changes over a 24-hour period. The scheme has been designed so that it is easy to maintain and low in energy consumption; it also uses a flexible lighting control system.The stylish, industrial and modern interior has a relaxed, informal feel to it and the lighting design was kept neutral in support of the architectural aesthetic and to appeal to VQ’s wide, 24-hour, customer demographic.Located on the ground floor of the St Giles Hotel the self-contained unit has a 45ft glass front, which is dominated by eye-catching signage in the form of a large VQ. Above the large VQ sign is a colour-changing LED track, giving the signage a dynamic look. The result is a striking feature visible from the street.A main feature within the restaurant, and a means to reinforce 24-hour life, is a bespoke video projection wall with textured glass and triangular faceted panels. The wall shows imagery of 24-hour London life, changing throughout the day.

Nulty+ is an award-winning independent architectural lighting design practice. We collaborate with architects and designers to provide innovative lighting designs, tailored to each individual project. We use light to reveal and accentuate the architectural environment, while recognising the importance of creating solutions that are easy to maintain and cost-effective. We strive to reduce the environmental impact of our designs by maximising energy efficiency and minimising light pollution and trespass, and by sourcing equipment with minimal embodied energy. Our solutions are innovative and often exceed current legislation and regulation. We work across a broad spectrum of sectors including: education, exterior/public realm, healthcare, hospitality, museums, residential, retail and work place.
