Weisz + Yoes Architecture

Weisz + Yoes Architecture is an award-winning design and planning practice. The firm's work is celebrated for its interest and agility in relating architecture, civic infrastructure and public open space to the intimate scale of individuals and to the grander presence of the urban landscape. The principals have participated in many international design competitions and exhibitions, and their built and unbuilt work has been published in major magazines and professional journals. Their client base includes public authorities, not-for-profit organizations and institutions, large and small companies, and individuals. The firm is pre-qualified as one of 24 firms in the DDC Design Excellence program. In 2005, the firm's work on The Bronx Charter School for the Arts earned an Honor Award for Architecture from the AIA New York Chapter, an Honor Award for Design Excellence in K-12 Educational Facilities from the Boston Society of Architects/AIA, as well as a Citation Award from DesignShare/School Construction News. Weisz + Yoes was a finalist in competitions to design a new plaza at 55 Water Street, the AIA Headquarters, and a new Sculpture Center in Long Island City's new cultural district. The firm was also recently shortlisted for the competition to design the Mill Center for the Arts in North Carolina and was official runner-up in the PORT team for the international competition to revitalize Toronto's Central Waterfront. The firm has also recently been awarded the 2006 Excellence on the Waterfront Award for the Battery Bosque as well as the ASLANY 2006 Design Award for both the Bosque and Kowsky Plaza. Weisz + Yoes is a NYC NYS certified woman-owned business.Weisz + Yoes is a knowledge driven practice where architecture is informed by an in-depth process of design research that our challenging clients and projects demand. Each of our projects evolve in response to the specific conditions of program, site context and technical constraints and opportunities. We believe that our most successful buildings, architecturally and functionally, are those that are a translation of the goals and needs of our clients and their projects. As such, our approach in the planning and design of a project is a collaborative one. Through interactive design sessions and presentations we collectively explore a variety of approaches, along the way selecting an option or combination of options for refinement that best achieve the project goals. We use the advantage of 3-D digital modeling as well as physical models to enhance the understanding of the design issues posed by each of the approaches and we use both precedent images as well as a storyboard approach to outline material and formal opportunities. Whether small or large our projects prioritize an ambition for the optimum environmental and formal relationship and for a new relationship to come out of the design process that reframe the city, the site and the purpose in a way that has resonance in its built and constructed reality.
