John-Richard partners with Furniture for the Cure
Written by: Stan Leflore
Article The Alyce chair is a loving dedication to Glenn Midnet’s mother who fearlessly battled cancer during his youth. Inspiration struck, Glenn Midnet, CEO and founder of Furniture for the Cure, while attending a cancer benefit. Quickly, he borrowed a pen from a woman sitting across the table from him and sketched a vanity chair that could also function as a dining chair. This drawing became the Alyce Chair. It is the first piece in a collection for Furniture for the Cure. Every day we are inspired by the people and things around us. Sometimes it’s easy to see, and other times it takes years before the impact is known. “My inspiration has always been my Mom, and it wasn’t until recently that I’ve been able to take those thoughts and put them into a solid action that I hope will inspire and help others.” says Glenn Midnet, founder of Furniture for the Cure. “I remember my Mom being this vibrant woman, all about family and friends. That changed over time and I didn’t understand why. I didn’t know that she was battling breast cancer, only that she was sick. Her battle came to an end in 1974, and it has defined me to this day.” John-Richard will be partnering with Furniture for the Cure to manufacture the Alyce chair(named after Glen’s mother) as well as two additional chairs (as yet unnamed). “When we heard the story about the Alyce chair, we were deeply moved by it.” said Alex Malouf, CEO and founder of John-Richard. “We were so moved” continues Alan Galbraith, President of John-Richard “We decided to donate a portion of John-Richard profits on these products to cancer-related charities as well.” Working with Glenn Midnet, John-Richard looks forward to bringing the Alyce chair and additional pieces to market. A sample of the chairs will premiere at High Point Market in April 2013. Glenn Midnet, Interior Design Society professional, owner and CEO of Design Group West, established the Naples-based company more than 20 years ago. Early in his career, Midnet, a New York City native, also developed a passion for designing custom furnishings when his clients desired something unique and personally meaningful.
