Bendheim Glass Transforms NXP Lobby Design

When NXP Semiconductors embarked on reshaping the lobby at its Rose Orchard campus in San Jose, Calif., they didn’t just want a space that was modern. They wanted one that made a statement. The result is a cutting-edge commercial tenant improvement project that includes a reimagined lobby, setting a new standard for their workplace culture.

The heart of the design is a striking 400-square-foot glass wall, featuring Bendheim’s custom ceramic digitally printed glass fastened with its Z-KISS™ cladding system. This design element is a statement piece as well as a functional one. It symbolizes connectivity and innovation, reflecting NXP’s evolving identity.

Faced with the challenge of consolidating two existing facilities into a more efficient footprint post-COVID, NXP wanted to create a space that would foster collaboration and reinvigorate the workplace. K+ Designs was brought in to help transform the environment, creating a welcoming space for staff, visitors and clients alike.

The glass wall, located behind a pre-existing staircase, was envisioned as a signature design moment. While the space included wood finishes throughout, the design team intentionally selected glass to establish textural contrast and to act as a backdrop that elevates the entire space. The glass wall features a custom-designed ceramic digital print composed of subtle grey dots interspersed with larger off-white elements, interconnected by fine white lines. The pattern evokes the concept of connectivity and networks.

“One of the intentions for the new building was to set a new design standard in terms of finished interior design, as they wanted to create something fresh and different from the existing building,” explained Lead Designer at K+ Designs, Bonnie Djie. “We know what we wanted in terms of aesthetics. Modern, clean lines with minimal framing, and it was just a matter of finding the right product that meets those needs.” Budget and timeline were major considerations in the project selection process, with McLarney Construction serving as the general contractor.

To achieve the desired minimal aesthetic, Bendheim’s Z-KISS™ glass mounting system was selected. The system allows for concealed fasteners and clean sightlines, keeping the focus on the digitally printed glass surface rather than any structural hardware. The result is a welcoming, brand-forward space that supports NXP’s evolving workspace culture and makes a strong first impression on visitors.

The Z-KISS™ Cladding System provides a fully engineered alternative to traditional clip fastening systems. Z-KISS™ requires fewer horizontal hanging brackets while providing reliable mechanical support for the dead load of glass and is designed to create a frameless aesthetic for opaque glass. The glass is delivered with the hardware preinstalled, ready for installation, and accompanied by shop drawings and layout drawings provided by Bendheim. Speed and ease of installation made it a practical choice.

Bendheim’s systems and glass products are designed with environmental sustainability in mind, featuring Health Product Declarations (HPDs), as well as third-party verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). The system’s transparent reporting of material contents, including its compliance with LEED standards, ensures that it meets rigorous environmental standards while contributing to more sustainable building practices.
