Created for today's luxury consumer, the freestanding Cabrits bathtub from Victoria + Albert is a fusion of modern art and ergonomics. The design team's brief was to maximise the bathing experience for people of different ages and body sizes through providing supreme comfort, coupled with exquisite styling. In short, to revolutionise the freestanding bathtub.Traditionally, support is achieved through the bather's feet reaching the short end of the bathtub to control their body in a relaxed position. However in larger baths suitable for taller people, this can result in smaller bathers feeling 'at sea'. Clearly a new design solution was needed to overcome the diversity of bathers' support requirements.With Cabrits, Victoria + Albert achieved an answer through use of a raised bathing well feature in the centre of the bathtub. The design is elegantly curved to form a connection at the hips between the bather and bath, independent of feet position. This results in a user's legs being free to extend over the raised midpoint and fully relax out whether you are 5’5” or 6’5” tall.A notable side effect of this new design is that the bath has two low ends, and therefore two plugs. It is also considerably quicker to fill than an equivalent bath of 68“ long due to the special shaping around the bather's thighs being cut away which reduces volume to a maximum of 46.5 gallons. In turn, the feature makes the most of space visually, revealing more floor around and under the bathtub and helping the bathtub fit into more unusual spaces such as bedrooms and family rooms.
