Chelsea Decorative Metal Company Goes International

Glenn Eldridge
Chelsea Decorative Metal Company, whose owner is known as "The Tinman" and whose website ishttp://www.tinman.com, has decided to sell decorative metal panels around the world. The decorative metal come in 24-by-48-inch sheets (for newcomers that's 610 mm × 1,200 mm) for easy handling and installation. The homegrown product is manufactured in Houston, Texas, U.S.A. Chelsea was established in the 1950s in New York City and is still a family owned business. In 1978 Glenn "The Tinman" moved the business to Houston, Texas where he has been selling the tin ceiling sheets throughout the country. Now the company has decided to expand world wide by offering tin ceilings and other products internationally. The Tinman says, "All countries can now benefit from the decorative, easy to install tin sheets offered from America." The company can help determine what one needs, get prices with shipping and in some cases draw diagrams. Tin ceilings were introduced to North America as a less expensive way to decorate ceilings. The labor to carve out designs in the plaster was replaced by tin sheets that had the designs pressed into them. The sheets could be easily installed on wood and painted white to match the color of plaster. What made the tin ceilings desirable to consumers was the light weight of the metal, the durability and fire resistance quality and the affordable pricing. Those factors will be a delight for the other countries that can now take advantage of these decorative sheets. Through the years designs were added to the line of Victorian designs which are still the most popular of all the designs and what Chelsea offers now are the original designs with styles that range from Americana and Turn of the Century to Art Deco and Victorian. The patterns come in 3", 6", 12" and 24" repeat patterns. The smaller designs work best in small areas or rooms with low ceilings. The 12" patterns are better for the bigger and higher rooms, while the 24" designs are best used commercially. All the styles come in the different size patterns. The sheets are made to overlap a half inch for nailing up to a ceilings, but Chelsea also make the designs in a 2' x 2' (610 mm x 610 mm) for suspended ceilings when access to a ceiling is needed or a commercial job wants to hide air ducts and electrical wires. These attractive designs are still readily available through Chelsea, and now available to all countries. Chelsea has also expanded their line from a shiny silver finish to a copper finish and even hand painted faux finish that add elegancy to the already decorative designs. The material is actual tin plated steel, but can be painted directly to with an oil-based paint. The copper and faux finishes need no painting. Also available are cornices (like a crown molding), fillers, molded fillers and even medallions. You can use this material for more than just ceilings. Wainscoting, wall coverings, a backsplash or behind a wood stove and it is even used in arts and crafts projects. The website is easy to remember: http://www.Tinman.com and the doors are now open to the world.
