Thermo Fisher Scientific
"ThermoFisher Scientific Signage " is an elegant monumental-scale site-specific installation of floor and wall mounted handcast art glass used as sculptural lobby signage in a new ThermoFisher head office in Pittsburgh, PA. Strada Architects in Pittsburgh designed the TI. The 25’ high by 17’ wide - 3/8” thick tempered panels of standard texture MD 207 “Brushed” textured glass are supported with copper-clad steel custom ornamental hardware.

Molds were one-off handmade molds, destroyed in the firing process. Since all cast glass is made from custom molds at Meltdown Glass, creating custom signage is affordable.

Cast glass can be tempered, laminated or installed in fire-rated safety-glass wall systems. It lends itself equally to being integrated into architecture or added as desired to an existing facility or home.

Meltdown Glass, under the artistic direction of artists BJ Katz and Chris Klein, is dedicated to expanding the frontier of kiln-cast glass in architectural and sculptural applications.
Founded by glass artist BJ Katz in 1993, Meltdown Glass has grown to become one of the pre-eminent kiln-fired art glass studios in North America. Meltdown is leading the trends with new products and constantly achieving new effects with glass. We pride ourselves on the quality and beauty of every piece of glass we create. Our art glass has depth of texture, elegant designs, colors and unique artistic surface treatments which set us apart from other kiln-fired glass studios.
Everyday we discover new applications for our glass...but some general applications are:
COMMERCIAL & HOSPITALITY: Glass curtain walls, fountains, doors, room dividers, tabletops, reception desks, glass mural walls and signage. Custom commissioned glass sculptures and art screens are also applications that can enhance commercial and hospitality settings
RESTAURANTS: Signage, booth dividers, doors, windows, decorative glass walls, table tops, fountains, light sconces, vases and ornamental details.
RESIDENTIAL: Side light and transom windows, table tops, room dividers, privacy windows, works of art, bathroom and kitchen countertops, sinks, and shower enclosures.
FURNITURE: Contemporary designer furniture such as tables and fire screens by Meltdown Artists. Fabrication of custom commissioned furniture.
LITURGICAL: Church and chapel windows, room dividers and privacy screens, doors, religious theme art screens, baptism bowls and religious art work.
WORKS OF ART: Custom commissioned glass sculptures and art screens for commercial and hospitality industries and private collectors.
