RYAN GREY SMITH
I started Grey Design Studio after six years of working with glass artist Dale Chihuly as head of his architecture department. Formally educated in architecture, I have always wanted to pursue the dream of building furniture and designing lighting as a way to fulfill the inner urge that all architects have.
For me the same issues at work in designing a space are equally fascinating to me in designing objects for that space. The materials are all the same, whether it's a beautifully finished piece of architecture or a beautifully finished piece of furniture. Grey Design seeks to combine my love of architecture with the joy of making architecturally inspired objects for a space.
Grey Design Studio is named after my late grandfather's design studio, which he founded in Philadelphia in the 1950's.
